Morehouse College Cheerleaders founded in 1969, is a NCAA D2 - Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference - East Division Cheer Program based in Atlanta, GA. Morehouse College is known for being the “best” All-Male four-year liberal arts HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) in the nation. One thing athletics lacked were cheerleaders! And since 1969, an avenue where women from the neighboring #1 HBCU in the nation, Spelman College, and the men of Morehouse could collaborate, engage, and flourish in the sport of Cheerleading while supporting sports such as Football and Basketball. While Morehouse College has had many influential names graduate over the decades, the cheer program is proud to be a home for Samuel L. Jackson (African American Actor) class of 1972. As both HBCU’s are dominant in black excellence and creating legacies, the Morehouse College Cheer Program later, created the Official Morehouse College Cheer Dynasty, “CHEERTRON”. Founded by Heather Joi Kenney & Former Head Coach, Mia Welsh-Khabeer, Cheertron has become an official cheerleading family formed around common goals and aspirations regarding cheerleading. Creating generational cheer families, the Cheertron brand has crossed through more than 20 generations thus far. Much like other top social organizations, Cheertron has a mission to embody sisterhood, trust, loyalty, integrity, and love that extends beyond the daily activities involved with being an athlete. The family traditions and bonds travel with the athletes through life changing events during their involvement while in undergrad to milestones after graduation such as Marriage and Doctorate celebrations.

The Morehouse College Cheer Program currently has three (3) SIAC Cheer & Dance Competition Championship titles. The team is comprised of anywhere between 12-24 student athletes each year.

This cheer program develops and incorporates new cheer styles while still abiding by the traditional techniques of Cheerleading. The program takes traditional game day level cheerleading and fuses it with the USASF & USA Cheer Rules and Guidelines to create the ultimate collegiate cheer experience. To the Atlanta University Center Consortium (AUCC) community, Morehouse College Cheer is known for performing and perfecting SpelHouse traditional stunts such as (Flat Back, Air Donica (remixed), Super-Girl), traditional chants such as (“Tiger Rumble”, game opener “Beat that Team”), and traditional dances such as (“Texas”, “Throw it Up”, and “Papa” (specifically created for the themed Morehouse soundtrack song, “Papa was a Rolling Stone”, by The Temptations)).

To show the devotion to institution, the athletes of Morehouse College Cheer are quizzed annually on the history of the College and the program, and participate in reciting the Morehouse College hymn with fellow Morehouse athletes at the close of each athletic performance.
